How to get from Manhattan to Purchase for about $10.
At 5:27 p.m. take the Harlem line express from Grand Central Station to Chappaqua. Get off at the White Plains stop. Go down the stairs and make a left to get to the buses, and then take the 12 bus to SUNY Purchase. When you get off the bus, turn right and go in the direction the bus came from. The fields are about half a mile, on your left.
Peak one-way fare is $8.00 for the train. Bus fare is $1.75, although the train conductor said an inexpensive bus transfer could be purchased at a ticket window in Grand Central.
