do we really have a game on july 5th? Schedule says we do but that seems a bit ridiculous considering many people (including captains) will probably be away at one of the major tournaments (Potlatch / Mars) or away with their families.

I know i personally will be at MARS, and i can say that at least 1/4 of my team will be there with me.

is this for real? we are really going to expect people to come out and play on a national holiday? my team has had one person that has said they can make that game. I think WUDi should seriously consider cancelling this day. Is any other team going to have trouble fielding a team for this day? Is my team the only patriotic team out there?!?!!

July 5th is not a national holiday. It is a day that most people have off from work because a national holiday occurs on a Sunday. July 5th is a Monday that is followed by a Tuesday that people have work on, much all the other Mondays this season.

Without making judgments about the overall patriotism of the teams that will be able to field teams, if we cancel games, we are likely canceling games, not postponing them. The coed division has already used up one of the three rain dates (possibly a second today). The open division has no rain make up dates in the schedule. So canceling the games will likely result in fewer opportunities for some people to play. Assuming that a reasonable number of teams are able to field enough players I see no advantage in canceling the games - obviously some teams will be at a competitive disadvantage if many members will be away playing at one of these tournaments, but this really shouldn't be a consideration.

No one on my team has brought up this issue over email - however we aren't the chattiest group so that might not mean a whole lot.

Each team should make an effort to determine whether it will be able to field a team and notify the opposing captain (or league coordinator if you are worried about one captain playing chicken, hoping the other team will forfeit first) so that no one has to make the trip to play a team that is not showing up.

I was not even talking about tournaments. I'm pretty sure half of my team isn't even going to a tournament, they just have other things to do on a holiday weekend.

I'm sorry if my point came off as being primarily semantic. It was intended to reflect my perception that people primarily celebrate the holiday on July 4th and that while some people will still be traveling back into town, few will still be celebrating the holiday on Monday evening when the games are scheduled. But that really just goes to my perception of whether there will be enough teams able to field sufficient players to make the games competitive and not farcical.

My greater point however is that the fields are already paid for and we would just be canceling games as opposed to rescheduling them to a time when more people are able to play. [It will probably rain next Monday and make this entire discussion moot anyway.]

The WUDi upper echelon is currently reviewing this issue and is hoping to make a determination by Wednesday.

Thank the Lord for the WUDI upper echelon. I shudder to think where we might find ourselves without their wisdom and leadership.

As for the middle and lower echelons, what good are they? Off with their heads!

If you feel that the half year banishment of Pippen lacked in substance, you could probably convince me that the Upper Echelon should have extended it to one year, or perhaps even make it a lifetime ban. But even I think that beheading Pippen is a tad on the harsh side. No?

As for beheading Trackstar for getting a Universe Point leaping block on me in the endzone, I totally think that beheading him would be a justified punishment for embarrassing my slow ass. But at the very least, he should be banned from any game against my team, and yes, that should definitely be a lifetime ban.
