Grand Masters of East Hampton Tournament
What, When, Where, and Who:
I am happy to announce that on May 22 and May 23, the seventh annual Grand Masters of East Hampton tournament will be held. If you are 40 or over (or will be this year) we want you to come, whether you have a team or not. This is an Open tournament and Women 35 and over (we are willing to bend this rule for those close) are also very, very welcome to play. We have great fields smack in the beautiful village of East Hampton, continually acclaimed as America’s most beautiful main street and have all six teams confirmed: Philly, NY/Conn., Brooklyn, Pelham, Baltimore and Washington.
The cost for this tournament will be $60, which will cover the costs of fields, your lobster or fish dinner, your breakfast, insurance, and bonfire and beer at the beach.
Accommodations:
Free camping, with outdoor shower, will be available at my home, situated on 20+ acres of land outside of Amagansett 10 minutes from the fields. My home is also two minutes from the best ocean and bay beaches anywhere.
For those interested in fancier accommodations, please call me at 917-992-4730 and I will direct you to numerous hotels once I ascertain your needs. The Ocean Dunes, next to where the beach party will be held, is holding reduced rate rooms for the tournament. Mention “Frisbee Tournament.” That way you can just walk down the beach to bed after the Beach Party.
East Hampton is one of the premier resort destinations in the world and has every sort of hotel accommodations one could ask for. East Hampton House is slightly less and the Ron Jo in Montauk is a real bargain.
Food:
We have made the decision to have food at my house rather than the beach this year. The choices are salmon, tuna, or lobster dinners. There will also be children’s offerings of hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken fingers if you want them and order them before for an additional charge to be determined (likely $10 or so).
Captains, I’d like to hear from you by the end of this week and no later than Wednesday of the tournament week as to your numbers and food choices. So, need to know the number of adult meals and how many will be salmon, tuna, lobster. Also need to know the number of children’s dinners.
Logistics:
Teams are welcome to arrive either Friday evening or Saturday morning.
Saturday morning’s play will not start until 11:00 am to allow those folks who need to travel on that day time to comfortably get there. The Captain’s meeting will start at 10:00 am Saturday with three rounds of play on Saturday. Dinner starts at about 7:00pm at my house. After dinner we will head to the beach for keg beer, bonfire, stories, songs, and some special surprises and foolishness. The only mandatory activity will be your oversized yarn of some Frisbee-related activity told around the roaring campfire we will build on the beach. Special Note: Anybody who skinnydips in the surf and performs crowd pleasing antics will receive free beer.
Sunday will have at least three rounds of play with semis and finals to determine a champion.
Children and families are always welcome everywhere, so bring the whole gang. They will enjoy the villages of East Hampton and the surrounding towns as there is incredible shopping, yummy restaurants, beautiful dunes and beaches, and fun activities everywhere. East Hampton Main Beach is a 10 minute walk from the fields or a 2 minute drive. The oldest farm in America (Home Sweet Home) is on Main Street as is Harriet Beecher Stowe’s house. History is everywhere on Main Street.
I demand impeccable behavior while we are at the fields please, because you will be in my village and representatives of our sport. Spectators will come and go, as will the local police, and all participants must be on their best behavior. This tournament will be covered by all kinds of media. There is no room for drugs or alcohol in the town of East Hampton and any player not abiding by this rule at the fields will be promptly ejected from the tournament. Unfortunately, dogs are not welcome at the fields. Once we get to the beach any rowdy behavior is fully acceptable. Littering will not be tolerated and responsible cleanup at the fields, beach and my land will be insisted upon. I want to be able to hold this tournament forever. Any destruction at my place will also not be tolerated. If you break it please own up and pay for it.
Yours Truly,
Alexander “Sas” Peters
Directions:
Avoid rush hour at all costs (3:30-7pm on Friday night)

It will turn into the Montauk Highway which is 2 lanes. Do not speed above 50 mph on 27 East. The local cops make plenty on dumb tourists. Let’s not have you be one of their victims. Take 27 East all the way to East Hampton Village. Make a left on Newtown Lane at the main stoplight. As you pass Waldbaums on your left you may want to stop and pick up Gatorade and bananas. Left at Railroad Ave. before the tracks, left into longterm parking. Fields are in front of you.
LIRR- Long Island Railroad East Hampton stop is a1 minute walk to fields, which are directly in front of you as you get off train. Walk towards Long term Parking. Fields are in front of you.

Take the Cross Sound Ferry from New London, Conn(reservations are mandatory). To Orient Point. Follow Route 25 to signs to Shelter Island Ferry at Greenport. Once off ferry, follow 114 to other side of Shelter Island and take ferry to Sag Harbor. Follow 114 to 27 East. You must make reservations for the Cross Sound Ferry, but it is totally worth it. It is one of the great New England pleasures. The trip is truly a pleasure.
