Annual Amir Lopatin Spirit of the Game Ultimate Tourney 2010! [THIS SUNDAY]
This annual event, now a tradition, honors the Spirit of the Game of Ultimate along with the life of Amir Lopatin (1976-2004), the founder of the first New York City Public Ultimate League (NYCPUL). Amir believed strongly in making this world a better place and he loved the game of ultimate. He brought these qualities together in working hard to create an ultimate league that reflected a healthy balance of competitive and recreational ultimate, in a league that was open to players of all levels and most importantly it was fun. And this is what we can expect this Sunday, when a few dozen of the original NYCPUL members, Amir's family and friends, ma ny guests and new comers to our ultimate community will gather to play an afternoon ultimate hat tournament.
So please join us this Sunday at the East Meadow (aka "Dustbowl") at Noon. Bring shorts, lights and darks (shirts) and desire for a fun afternoon in the sun.
In past years, we have raised thousands of dollars for the Amir Lopatin scholarship fund, for the Central Park Conservancy and for Ultimate Peace (last year). This year we have chosen a cause championed by a couple of our players, Tyler Noyes and Chris Mazur, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team in Training raising funds to help stop Leukemia, Lymphoma, and Myeloma from taking more lives. This year, we are asking for a voluntary donation online https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=5GAXZEZ8PD4PY or at the games ($25 suggested).
