Bloody Red Beatdown
This past Wednesday, the top two teams in the Open Draft Division were in action on adjacent fields, Main fields #1 & 2. On Main 2, the self-proclaimed Dream Team took on lowly Black, winners of only one game so far. On paper, this should have been a blowout. On Main 1, Red matched up against Orange, their combined records a lofty 7-1. This promised to be a slugfest.
In keeping with their style, the Dream Team stumbled through another uninspired performance, squandering an early cushion, clinging to a one goal lead late in the second half, and finally benefiting from a couple of unforced errors down the stretch to escape with the 15-12 victory and remain undefeated at 5-0. If they were trying to send a message to the Red team over on Main field 1, the message was, “Hey, we’re really not that good.” With an average margin of victory below 3 so far this season, that message is clear.
By contrast, the Mighty Red squad did what they’ve been doing all season – crush their opponent. The final score was 15-1, leaving Red undefeated and sporting a gaudy point differential of +41. I’ll save you the math – Red has won their first five games by an average of more than 8 points. The message they are sending is also clear: “We’re going to beat you into a bloody Red mess.”
On Monday, June 20th, these two undefeated teams will face off for the first time this season on Main Field 5. Can the Dream Team slow the mighty Red Juggernaut enough to squeak out another victory and keep the dream alive? Or will the Red Menace treat the Dreamers to the same merciless abuse they’ve been dishing out all season, and leave them bloody and broken like the old men most of them are, limping to the lot to gather around the glowing pumpkin head and cry into their vintage pop top cans of Schaeffer?
Red and White in a bloody Open battle on Main 5. Black and Charcoal in the All Evil Coed match up on Main 7. WUDi Swap Night never looked so good. Be there!
