Candidate Statements for WUDi 2011 Elections

With the WUDi Elections only a few weeks away, we are pleased to present the candidate statements for the people brave enough to step up to the plate for the three open positions this year: Secretary, At-Large Board Member,and Corporate Director.  As with every year that I can remember, there has only been one candidate for each position. A bit of a let down, right? But so be it.

Secretary Candidate Statements

‘Canadian’ Rob McKenna

To whom it may concern;
It is with this short statement that I wish to announce my candidacy for the position of WUDi Board Secretary. I have served in this position since Spring 2010.

During the past two seasons, I have helped organize WUDi’s first women’s skills clinic and its first captain’s game under the lights. In the upcoming seasons I hope to further develop these programs in an effort to grow and further the sport of ultimate with WUDi as the New York City region’s leading organization.

I have served as a summer league captain in the Portland (Maine) Ultimate Summer League where I helped organize the Portland Ultimate Clam Bake for 5 years from 1999-2004. I have been a player, captain and organizer of the game since 1991.

Sincerely;
‘Canadian’ Rob McKenna

At-Large Board Member Candidate Statements

Joe Gara

Hello WUDi,

I am running for re-election as a WUDi At-Large member of the Board of Directors after serving the last two years.  As a voting member of the five person Board, I would like to continue my volunteer service representing our membership as a whole.  For those who do not know me, my first summer as a player goes back to 1996, I have played and volunteered most Summers at different levels since then.  I spearheaded the sweatshirt fundraiser ($20 each, get one, we still have most sizes left!!!) and have spent countless hours reading, digesting, responding, and deleting emails regarding all things WUDi.  Highlights of my non-WUDi disc career include two years service as an Ultimate Peace Coach (http://www.ultimatepeace.org/donate/), current co-Captain of the NY Masters squad, founder of the Salisbury University Ultimate team(tied for 5th at natties in 2000!), sponsored member of the Captain Lawrence Disc Golf Team, being the first person to play a round of Disc Golf on an 18 hole course in all 50 states, and almost four years and counting of being married to Becca Tucker.

Westchester Summer League makes up 20 or so of the most fun nights of the year, I would like to continue to do what I can to keep it that way.  If it is possible to make WUDi even more fun, I am down with that too.  References available upon request.

Peace & Love,

Joe Gara

Corporate Director Candidate Statements

Seth Canetti

Hey Wudi,

With Ben deciding to step down this year as director of the league, I am running for election as the Executive Director to fill his (very large) shoes. For those who don’t know me, I started playing ultimate in 2000 and have been a member of Wudi since 2001, playing in both the rec and coed draft leagues, and captaining since 2006. I am currently an At-Large member on the board and also filled in as Coed Draft Coordinator for the 2010 year.

What makes this league thrive is the people, and I will do whatever I can to provide the best ultimate experience for everyone. I also would like to see WUDi get more involved in the community, especially helping to build youth ultimate in the area.

Thanks and hope to see you all soon,

Seth
