The 2011 Season
As we shift pages on the calendar to 2011, the WUDi Board wanted to take this opportunity to alert the membership to upcoming events and changes in the organization and Westchester Summer League.
It is our pleasure to announce that both Fi Cheng and Seth Canetti have been re-elected to the WUDi Board. Fi will continue to be the WUDi Treasurer, and she has done a spectacular job streamlining our accounts, trimming our expenses, and keeping WUDi a financially healthy organization. Seth will continue to be one of our two At-Large board members, and we are all very excited to have him remain a part of the WUDi leadership as we continue to grow and reach out to the next generation of Ultimate players.
Starting on Saturday night, February 12th and finishing on Sunday morning, February 13th, WUDi will be hosting the Third Annual Nocturnal Decisions Indoor Overnight Hat Tournament. This has been a fabulous event the last two years, and is shaping up to be even better this year. We will be selling newly created Nocturnal Decisions discs at the event, so keep your eyes open.
This summer, WUDi will be making some significant and important changes to the way we operate Westchester Summer League. For starters, there will be no more “Veteran” status during registration for men seeking to register for the Coed Draft League. “Veteran” status refers only to men that have been in Westchester Summer League in the past. This means that registration will be on a First Come First Served basis until we reach our numerical cap. We will continue to offer Early Bird registration for a clearly defined set of individuals who have made significant contributions in time and effort for WUDi over the years. This group includes summer league captains from the past three seasons, current and former elected board members, as well as our dedicated league coordinators, advisors, and volunteers.
Within the Co-ed Draft and Rec divisions, we will be testing out a new strategy. We will have co-captains for all teams to provide greater balance and coverage over the summer. Each pair of captains must contain one man and one woman. This will impact the first nine rounds of the Co-ed draft, and we are in the process of determining how to implement the co-captain element within our current draft structure, so stay tuned for this information. This is an experiment which will be reviewed after the end of the season.
In the Open division, we will again allow the creation of a team COREs. We believe that in conjunction with the removal of “Veteran” status, many players will want to submit a CORE for the Open division. The WUDi Board will review all submissions to try and maintain a competitive division. If players have questions about COREs, please reach out to the WUDi Board.
As always, we are interested in receiving submissions for both the 2011 jersey and disc designs. All interested artists should contact Marty Brutvan ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) for information about formatting and sizing for each item. The deadline for all final submissions will be March 1st, 2011.
Lastly, the WUDi Board is looking for more volunteers. The strength of the organization has always been based on a dedicated group of volunteers. As years pass, some volunteers step back and need to be replaced by new blood. Our goal is to continue to have a great group of individuals leading WUDi into the future. If you have an interest in volunteering for WUDi in an advisory capacity, or simply volunteering for a single event, please reach out and let us know.
Thank you for taking the time to read about important events and changes within WUDi and we look forward to seeing you on the field.
Best regards,
The WUDi Board
